Dr. Juliane (Otoniya J.) Okot Bitek is a poet, scholar, and Assistant Professor in the Black Studies Program at Queen’s University, jointly appointed in Gender Studies and English. Her award-winning work explores African literature, Black Studies, diaspora, cultural memory, and the intersections of war, trauma, and oral traditions. Her poetry collections include 100 Days (2016), which won the Glenna Luschei Prize for African Poetry and the INDIEFAB Book of the Year Award, A Is for Acholi (2022), winner of the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, and Song & Dread (2022). Widely published in journals and anthologies, her writing engages themes of history, identity, colonial legacies, and Black and Indigenous cultural relations.
